Youth Group Corner – July to September 2025

Hey everyone! 👋 It’s been a super exciting time for the Right 2 Smile Youth Group, and we’ve got loads to share with you. From trainings and outings to new projects and adventures abroad, here’s a peek at what we’ve been up to these past few months!

Youth Group Sessions

Firstly, we are super excited to welcome Ritianne, our new Youth Group Coordinator! 🎉 With a passion for community, inclusion, and social justice, Ritianne is bringing lots of energy (and amazing ideas) to the group. We are so happy to have them on board. 💛

We would also like to shout out the Boost project funded by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ! Thanks to their support, we now have brand-new creative resources, which already made their colourful debut at our Open Day. We’re looking forward to using these materials in upcoming sessions and bringing even more creativity to the community.

As part of this year’s summer programme, the young people looped in various ideas on how to spend the summer together. Thus, we had a couple of outings. We had a morning at Esplora! Our outing to Esplora Interactive Science Centre was full of hands-on experiments and plenty of laughs. From exploring the exhibits to trying out cool interactive activities, we definitely left feeling inspired. We also visited the Xrobb L-Għagin Nature Park and Wildlife Rehab Centre. The team gave us a guided tour, teaching us all about conservation and local wildlife. Meeting turtles 🐢 and hedgehogs 🦔 up close was a great experience, and it really opened our eyes to the importance of protecting nature.

These are some of our sessions’ highlights 🌟! We had different sessions full of laughter and connection through fun games and creative activities. We also had heartwarming sessions focusing on being together and sharing our experiences through art and music! We also had a final session as part of the Midwal Project with Roderick and Katelia, where we have been diving into Santa Luċija’s cultural roots. The young people immersed themselves in an inspiring exhibition at the Serenity Garden, which gave us a chance to celebrate local identity while shaping the future. A huge thanks to the Midwal team for letting us be part of this meaningful journey. 🖼️

Rooting for Agritopia

In the middle of summer, we had the wonderful opportunity to participate in an Erasmus+ project, ‘Rooting for Agritopia’. Several young people from the Right 2 Smile Youth Group flew to Italy for an unforgettable Erasmus+ youth exchange all about agriculture, sustainability, and community. This project taught us not just about agriculture, but also about collaboration, culture, and building a sustainable future. 🌍

Mentors’ Training and Outreach Youth Work

Professional growth never stops! We had a new mentors’ call and welcomed new mentors to the group. The new mentors kicked things off with an induction session at the Valletta Design Cluster. Guided by our coordinators, we explored new skills, strategies, and fresh perspectives that will make our work with young people even more impactful. 

Beyond our weekly youth group sessions, if you’ve seen us wandering around Santa Luċija recently, you probably noticed we’ve been sharing QR codes linking to our socials 📲. It’s our way of saying “hi” to the community, starting conversations, and connecting with young people. Feel free to come chat with us! 💬

Moving Forward

We also have big news! Our project “Threads of Time: An Intergenerational Skills Exchange” has been selected for funding by VME Coop’s Community Sponsorship Initiative. This project will bring young people and senior citizens together to share skills, from traditional crafts to digital know-how. We’re beyond excited to get started; thank you, VME Coop, for believing in our mission!
