Last Saturday marked the grand finale of the Community Arts Programme, a heartfelt initiative that brought people of all ages together through creativity and community spirit. The highlight of this program was the creation of a vibrant mural in the subway that connects the two communities of Santa Lucija and Hal Tarxien —a shared artwork now symbolizing unity, Maltese heritage, and the beauty of everyday life.

The project kicked off with a series of four workshops, where community members and the leading artist collaborated on the mural’s design. These workshops became hubs of inspiration, allowing participants to share their experiences, stories, and visions of what makes their communities special. Together, they envisioned a piece that would embody the Maltese spirit and celebrate the richness of daily life in the Maltese communities.

The mural itself is now a stunning display that blends artistic elements with local culture, a piece created by the community, for the community. Each brushstroke reflects the pride of those involved, highlighting Malta’s distinctive charm, resilience, and vibrant culture.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the Melita Foundation for fully funding this initiative, making it possible for the program to reach the hearts and hands of the local community. A sincere thank you also goes to Kirsty, the artist, for her guidance and passion, as well as the Santa Lucija Local Council for their essential role in coordinating this project.
The mural is more than art; it’s a testament to the power of collaboration, creativity, and community spirit. We encourage everyone to visit and see this new landmark—a beautiful reminder of what a united community can accomplish!
